The girls youth hockey program is an instructional program designed to develop the skills necessary to play competitive field hockey. We welcome girls to start at any level to get interested in the sport. Each year, the teams are assigned based on the incoming talent, previous experience and age of the girls. Generally, there are 20 girls per team. Each team travels to the neighboring towns of Agawam, Wilbraham, East Longmeadow, Holyoke, Northampton and South Hadley just to name a few and we try and split the games in half at home and half away. Each team participates in two tournaments or jamborees each season. Longmeadow hosts one as a fundraiser and the older girls may participate in a third tournament. The season starts in late August and runs through the first week of November. Each team has 4-5 events such as practice or a game each week throughout the season. It's one of who may know the game but more importantly, know the girls) and young professional coaches (who know the games and may have played in college or coached somewhere else). Parent coaches, assistants and volunteers are needed so please let us know your interest. More information will be sent to the participants upon registration.

After a 19 year break, the Feelies are back with Here Before an album of all new original material on Bar/None Records. The new album touches on different styles from the Feelies’ long history while adding new grooves and musical ideas to the mix. Electric and acoustic guitars melt together in archetypal Feelies fashion on songs like “Nobody Knows” and “Should be Gone. “ Elsewhere there are slabs of driving garage rock like “When You Know” and “Time Is Right” and the down-tempo ”Bluer Skies,” and harmonically rich “Later On.” Here Before was recorded at Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey produced by Feelies founders Glenn Mercer and Bill Million. Besides Glenn on rhythm/lead guitar and lead vocals, and Bill on guitar and vocals, the album features Feelies mainstays Brenda Sauter (bass, vocals), Stanley Demeski (drums), and Dave Weckerman (percussion). The Feelies proper re-emerged with a new rhythm section (the line-up they’ve had ever since and that appears on Here Before) in 1984 and recorded The Good Earth, co-produced by Million, Mercer and REM’s Peter Buck). The album was released 1986 on the Coyote label (run by Steve Fallon, owner of Hoboken, NJ’s Maxwells, and the group’s manager for a spell), followed by two further releases on Coyote through Twin/Tone/A&M: Only Life (1988) and Time For A Witness (1991). The band shared bills with Patti Smith, LouReed, REM and Bob Dylan during this period and toured nationally. In 1992 Bill Million left the music business, moving his family to Florida and effectively putting the band on what turned out to be a very long hiatus. Meanwhile, Glenn and Dave continued playing together in Wake Ooloo, Stanley was a founding member of the band Luna and Brenda played in a number of groups including her own Wild Carnations. Glenn Mercer put out his first solo album in 2007. In 2008, the Feelies re-united to open for long time admirers Sonic Youth at Battery Park and then resurrected their tradition of playing low key gigs around national holidays (many at their old home base, Maxwell’s) rather than doing lengthy tours. In 2009 Bar/None re-issued Crazy Rhythms and The Good Earth, this being the first band-sanctioned CD release of the former; both titles were also issued on heavyweight vinyl and with download cards for access to bonus tracks. A highlight of the All Tomorrows Parties festival in New York state that year was the Feelies playing Crazy Rhythms in its entirety for the very first time. They also introduced new songs written by Mercer and Million raising fans’ hopes for a new album eventually materializing. In 2010, using the basement studio in Mercer’s New Jersey home, Glenn and Bill resumed writing songs and working out arrangements for new Feelies songs in the midst of rehearsals for live shows in Boston, Philadelphia and D.C. with Bill commuting back and forth from Florida for this. By Fall that year, the band had worked up 13 songs. Basic tracks were cut at Water Music in October with the classic Feelies line-up of Mercer, Million, Demeski, Sauter and Weckerman; tracking dates were engineered by Sean Kelly who also helped out with overdubbing sessions in November and mixing in December. In addition to their main instruments Brenda played violin and sang backup vocals, Glenn contributed keyboards and Bill, Stan, Glenn and Dave all pitched in on percussion. Many of their fans probably didn’t think they would ever get a chance to see the Feelies perform again let alone have a new album in their hands. Here Before adds a solid fifth album to the Feelies discography. The album will be released digitally as well as on CD and vinyl with a download card.

Learn where Oprah frequently buys gift baskets. In fact, this shop made her "O" list twice! And what would a visit to Boston be without sampling our chowdah? Will a "Hall of Fame" version do? If that's not enough, we've saved the best for last: dessert. We can't send you home without that, can we? "Stroll. Sample. Savor. Repeat." with us as we enjoy Boston's best eats.

Seven years ago, when we began to grow communities in Haiti’s Central Plateau, we could not have imagined how brightly the spark we struck would burn. Despite trying times, Haiti is growing stronger – and with your support, we can continue to build a just, vibrant future for Mirebalais and all of Haiti. We invite you to join us in Randolph this June as we celebrate advancements in education and recommit to the work that lies ahead.
Over half of Haiti’s population is illiterate. The majority of Haiti’s 15,000 primary schools are privatized, and only one-fifth of students make it to secondary education. However, the power is in our hands to change these tragic facts, to bring education to all people. Since April 2006, FATEM has worked tirelessly to advance education, information, and economic development in the region, putting the long-term growth of Haiti into Haitians’ hands.
Schools for children and economic support for parents invest in present and future. Training in information sciences opens the door for 21st-century business development and unprecedented international partnerships. Our unique studies on education in Mirebalais allow FATEM to specially target problem areas, and work with community, government, business and non-profit partners to address systemic gaps.
On Saturday June 22, 2013, The Lantana in Randolph will host "Educate to Change", one of the premier events of the year, honoring the work of FATEM in the primary education sector in rural Haiti. We will also acknowledge the work of leaders in education—change-makers, whose passion has helped ensure that children and young people in Haiti are equipped with top-quality skills and prepared to compete globally.
Our Keynote Speaker for the 2013 event is Dr. James Féthière, President of GRAHN-Canada and GRAHN-Montreal (chapters of GRAHN-Monde), whose mission is to advocate an ongoing reflection process that will lead to structuring and coordinated actions in order to achieve the construction of a new Haiti based on the rule of law, sharing, solidarity, education, respect for the environment, and a strong commitment to the common good.
It is worth sharing with you here the story of the Nicolas community: A remote village around Mirebalais, the nearest school accessible to school age children living in the Nicolas area was 45 minutes away. FATEM realized the need, advocated and raised funds to build a community school. Today, Nicolas children have access to a seven-classroom building, complete with restrooms, a kitchen, a warehouse to store food for the meals program, and staffed with trained teachers. In an effort to help the school become self-sufficient, we assisted the community in establishing a group of local social entrepreneurs. The group is registered with the Haitian government as a formal business entity, and will oversee the operations at both the school and a poultry farm, which we also helped them launch; they will use revenues from the farm to support the school and offer scholarships to some of the parents. The farm will create at least ten new jobs.
Help us prepare Haiti’s children for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. To purchase tickets to our gala or sponsor the event, please visit our event page or call (508) 577-3488 or (617) 240-9545.
Tickets may also be purchased by mailing a check, made out to "FATEM", to FATEM, Inc., 1 Centre Street, 3rd Floor, Brockton, MA 02301. We can Educate to Change Haiti’s future.
